7 Tips for Ringing in the New Year
Can you believe the new year is soon upon us? As 2018 creeps closer than ever, you may – or may not – be thinking about your New Year’s Eve party. Whether you spend your night at home watching the ball drop from your couch or celebrating in style at your own party rentals, we have tips for you to keep in mind while you ring in the new year.
1) If you are inviting guests, have them bring food.
One way to save time and money on your New Year’s Eve celebration is encourage your guests to bring food. Encourage snacky foods or desserts such as chips, crackers, cheeses, cookies, or cakes which are easy for people to bring. This is especially fitting for casual affairs among friends.
2) Be sure to have plenty of champagne.
One thing is for sure you can never have too much champagne at a New Year’s Eve party. And unless your friends know their stuff, you don’t have to buy the really expensive champagne to have a good time. So order a case or two (depending on how many people you are inviting).
3) Plan your way home.
If you are going out or you are going to someone’s home for a party, make sure you know in advance how you will get home. Have a backup plan as well in case your designated driver ends up drinking instead. Use a ride-share app or have the local taxi company on speed dial. Also, keep public transit in mind as many offer free or discount rides on New Year’s Eve to reduce the amount of alcohol related injuries.
4) Keep it intimate.
If you decide to throw a party, one of the most relaxing ways to ring in the New Year is keeping it between intimate friends and family. Give everyone a chance to reflect on their accomplishments for the year, what they’re proud of, and what they hope to make happen for the next year.
5) Decorate as simple as possible.
If you choose to hang balloons, go for gold and silver, which are classic New Year’s Eve colors. Best of all, keep those Christmas lights handy, especially white or blue lights. Go to the dollar store as well to get cheap New Year’s Eve decorations as well, such as noisemakers and favors.
6) Create a time capsule for the next New Year’s Celebration.
If you haven’t started this tradition, now may be a wonderful time to start. Gather together memories from the past year such as photographs, postcards, business cards from amazing people you’ve met or opportunities you have found, or other trinkets that represent positive memories and put it all together in a time capsule. This will give you something positive to look at for the next New Year’s Eve.
7) Drink plenty of water.
If you plan on drinking during your celebration, whether you are at home or at a party, make sure to drink water between drinks. It will help prevent the morning hangover. At least, it won’t be as bad.
So hopefully you have a safe and happy New Year and may this next year be one to remember.
