5 Tips Adults Who Wear Braces
Don’t let your current state of orthodontics bring you down. Plenty of adults wear braces, so you aren’t alone. If you need some tips for getting through the day as well as caring for the metal wrapped around your teeth, this post will help you along with caring for your teeth and looking your best.
1) Brush and floss often.
The main issue you may come across when wearing braces are the food particles that are much easier to get jammed in your teeth. So, while it may not have been a habit for you before braces, flossing and brushing after every meal should be a habit for you now. Take a travel toothbrush with you and purchase flossers that can get behind and underneath your braces.
2) Careful with what you eat.
Some foods are not friendly to braces. So cut back on foods such as corn, popcorn, beef jerky, and chewy foods like caramel. These things can get underneath your braces and get stuck making it a particularly painful to get out at a later point. Also be cautious with even healthy foods such as apples since their skin can get underneath your braces and be a particularly painful problem.
3) Remember, these aren’t permanent.
While it can be daunting to take on a task that you feel you should’ve gotten over with as a kid, remember that braces aren’t permanent. Also, kudos to you for taking care of your teeth. The health of your teeth and gums matter a lot and any orthodontist will tell you that getting your teeth fixed later in life is better than not at all.
4) Wear a mouth guard for sports related activities.
The last thing you want is a knock in the teeth when you are wearing braces. Wear a mouth guard to protect yourself. If you are concerned about an injury that happened near your face, check your teeth immediately and make an appointment in the case of any damage.
5) Be confident.
Confidence is everything. If you smile with your head held high, people won’t even notice you are wearing braces anymore. The people that know you will barely see them after a while. Confidence is attractive no matter what you have on your teeth, so take care of your teeth, your braces and smile wide.
